Re: Yoshi's Mansion (YM)
Oh yeah, Carne was the other one. So are we going to go through with this idea? I don't really care anymore about what the intro is as long as it flows with our other ideas for gameplay

Re: Yoshi's Mansion (YM)
I found several Boo spritesheets I could edit/recolor for both of them, and I also found a couple good Doopliss sheets too, just in case we decide to have him in there somewhere as well.

Btw, I've been having a little trouble with sound volume control with actionscript. The music for outside the mansion begins playing at full volume, but that's not the problem. When a character levels up, a DIFFERENT music track starts to play while the mansion outside music continues to play. I need the mansion outside music to lower volume to like 10 or something so you can't really hear it, but it keeps playing. I've gotten it to work in a way, but it lowers ALL sound volume, not just the one I want to become muted or almost muted. Can anyone help?
what compiler are you using?
Re: Yoshi's Mansion (YM)
What's a compiler?
And yay, we got some Boo sprite sheets

so what do you use to make your flash movies?
Re: Yoshi's Mansion (YM)
I've been using flash for like 5 years, but I just started making games. So, what do I use to make them...? Flash...? I'm so lost right now, sorry.

Re: Yoshi's Mansion (YM)
okay cuz i've only used adobe flash... you should be able to use a script to pause the sound and then play it again
Re: Yoshi's Mansion (YM)
Well, I know how to do that, I was just wondering if there was a way to keep it playing, but the volume of only that sound lowers. That ^ was my last resort option

Lol, he can already do that based on the Pause Menu
Re: Yoshi's Mansion (YM)
well playing one sound over another usually sounds like a royal clusterfuck of unneeded nonsense.... so i would either recommend either using a pause or jump to another scene
Re: Yoshi's Mansion (YM)
Ok, so use the last resort... I was just wondering if that was possible, that's all I'll get on that ASAP

Re: Yoshi's Mansion (YM)
GAME UPDATE:
I'm really sorry for the lack of updates and demos. I've had A LOT of homework recently, and what little free time I have, I spend relaxing or playing video games. I probably won't be able to work on YM until MAYBE this weekend... I have to write a paper and do a ton of quotes from the book we just read. Music has been added to the first area, and I'm hoping to make the first cutscene introducing Prof. E. Gadd. AND we need a concrete intro idea to get all the other cutscenes flowing too. I don't really care what the intro is, but I'd like to have an idea at what we're looking at. Other than that, stay tuned I guess

Re: Yoshi's Mansion (YM)
don't do anything too ridiculous, remember that this is a flash game most people just want to jump into a flash game and get going. Also the more you pack into it the bigger the file size and the longer it takes to load... especially if you plan on hosting this game on a site like addictinggames.com or something like that
Re: Yoshi's Mansion (YM)
Yeah, I don't want the intro to be too long for exactly that reason... I'm not sure if I'll ever post YM up on a gaming site, but who knows... we'll have to see where it goes

Re: Yoshi's Mansion (YM)
GAME UPDATE:
I FINALLY got to work on YM for a while. I'm pretty sure Jason and I have come up with a definite intro that will flow well with our random ideas. The intro is already in progress, which lasts about 10 secondsish not counting text. The intro is actually almost done... I need to get another sprite sheet with all new sounds too for the rest of the intro
I'm going to try and make a game update every so often, but there might be multiple a day or couple days, depending on the amount of progress. I want to try and keep you guys informed about the game's current status.

GAME UPDATE:
Jason and I had some issues with the intro, so I had to start over. But it makes way more sense now. It's not quite done, but it should be the next time I get a chance to work on it, which might be tonight. After the intro is finished, gameplay will BEGIN!!

Re: Yoshi's Mansion (YM)
You should also have the capability to skip the intro, and don't forget to submit to NG.
Re: Yoshi's Mansion (YM)
You HAVE to watch the intro only the first time. When you save the first game, you click the Continue button on the main menu to continue the saved game, thus skipping the intro. If you hit New Game though, then you watch it over again

Re: Yoshi's Mansion (YM)
See thats a problem, some people just want to play through the game and like to skip over cut scenes to have imediate gameplay. Also, what if they ae playing in an office or a library where they don't get sound, in this case it would bea one time play. I've played some games and just quit because of cut scenes and load screens takin too long, the cut scene can also potentially tie up more of the CPU.
Re: Yoshi's Mansion (YM)
The game just wouldn't make sense if there weren't any cutscenes or the intro... I could try to cut back on the cutscenes, but with no intro... how the heck is anyone gonna know what's going on?
