Installing the Homebrew Channel

Post by the guffman on Thu May 06, 2010 11:21 pm

What you need:

-SD Card

*This software may cause damage to your Wii and/or void the warranty, install at own risk. Guffman forums and its administration is not responsible for your misuse of software*

This is by far, the most important step when it comes to Wii Hacking 101. The Homebrew Channel is like any other channel on your Wii in the fact that it will pop up as a box you can go to and run from your main menu, but its purpose is to run applications like games and media players similar to those on your computer.

Download me!

In this archive, you'll find a file called "boot.elf" Place this in the root of your device!

Click me for Wii System Menu 3.1 to 4.1
Click me for Wii System Menu 4.2 ONLY

Copy the folder named "private" to the root of your device. If you already have a folder named private here, rename it "privateold" for now. Load up the data management menu for your Wii and go to "Channels" on your SD Card. Run the only channel present and hit "Yes" when asked. It is important that there are no other channels on your SD Card at this time.

The HackMii Installer will now load on your Wii. Hit A when possible to get to the menu of items to install. Install the Homebrew Channel, DVDX, and BootMii as a bios. When done, hit exit and return to your Wii's main menu. You will now have the Homebrew Channel among your other channels.

WARNING: IT IS VERY IMPORTANT FROM THIS POINT FORWARD THAT YOU DO NOT UPDATE YOUR WII THROUGH NINTENDO ANYMORE. GO INTO YOUR OPTIONS AND TURN OFF WIICONNECT24 IF IT'S ON! UPDATING YOUR WII MAY BRICK (ruin) IT; DON'T DO IT!!!

Yeah, my only issue with my Wii was that since I'm running the newest menu version (4.2 aka the bane of Homebrew existence), so I had to install a bunch of random stuff that left me with no idea what I had done and a ton of bugs in random applications that I'm still sorting through...

Especially USB Loaders...

No... I didn't even know this channel existed, and Jason just put it on my Wii to show me stuff... I don't know anything about it

you don't even need updates anyway... if the game tries to update your wii just rip it to a hard drive and boot off that

I often find myself telling people stuff like "yeah, just boot it off your external hard drive, wayyyy easier," but then I realize that none of my friends have external hard drives Razz
